With 2016 in full swing, how do things look for your marriage this year?
To help make 2016 one of your best years, here are six habits heathy
couples practice to maintain a happy marriage:
1. They’re agreeable not disagreeable.
They choose to get along.
They know life isn’t about getting everything they want, so
they value
flexibility over rigidity and compromise over control.
2. They’re optimistic and responsible.
Pessimism and blame are deadly to marriage.
Happy spouses don’t blame their spouse for everything that goes “wrong.”
3. They know what real happiness is.
Real happiness isn’t found in acquiring possessions.
Sure, stuff is nice
but it doesn’t create fulfillment or lasting happiness. Happy
couples enjoy life whether it’s playing hide and seek with the kids, leaving a
love note for their spouse, or listening to the heartfelt bedtime prayers of their
children.
4. They’re committed to being a better partner.
If you want a “better” spouse then be a better spouse.
It’s a law of life that we reap what we
sow.
5. They forgive and move on (notice I didn’t say “forget”).
Forgiveness heals relationships and has the power to resurrect love.
Forgiveness melts away bitterness.
In 2016, forgive often and freely.
6. Happy couples acknowledge a Higher Power.
There’s more to life than what we see.
And what we see with
our heart is more important than what we see
with our eyes.
Here are three ways to make your marriage more spiritual:
1. Express Gratitude.
Tell your spouse how grateful you are they’re in your life. And practice
counting your blessings in stead of your burdens.
2. Get Into Nature.
There’s something about nature that fills the heart with wonder.
So
consider planning an adventure with your spouse (something you’d
both enjoy) to just bask in the sacred awareness of a Higher Power.
3. Pray.
Pray with your spouse. And pray for your spouse.
How would relationship be different if you prayed for your spouse
every day?
How might it be different if you prayed
with them?
These are just a few things that happy couples do to stay happy. Which
one could make the biggest difference in your marriage in the next two
weeks?
