Financial problems can really cause of lot of trouble for
a marriage. Couples argue more about money than just
about anything else.
So consider these tips to ease/prevent financial
stress:
1) Guard against emotional spending.
This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy spending
money on fun things that you don’t really need
but want.
But emotional spending is dangerous when
used
as a form of escapism to flee financial pressure.
Decide not to create a delusional world of fake financial
peace by engaging in unhealthy emotional spending.
2) Monitor your
numbers.
Keep tabs on how your finances are trending from
month-to-month. This keeps you aware of when
certain adjustments need to be made.
It’s a great way to make sure you’re not taken
by “surprise.” It decreases
arguments, too.
3) Save.
Enough said. Just do it. Even if it's $5 monthly.
You're forming a habit that will serve you well
in the years to come.
Dave Ramsey recommends doing whatever you can
to build an emergency fund of $1000. Knowing you
have cash resources for the unexpected is a source
of financial peace.
4) Things will get better.
If you’re deeply in debt and struggling from month
to month, be kind to yourself.
Remember, it won’t always be this way if you do what
you know is best for you and your family’s financial
welfare moving forward.
5) Be together.
You and your partner must tackle this together.
You’re a team. So act like one.
6) See if your creditors will work with you.
Some will. Many won’t. But you need to try.
7) Tithe.
I’m not sure how you’ll feel about this final
tip, but God says to test Him by returning
tithes and offerings - that He will open the
storehouse of heaven and bless you more
abundantly than you every thought
possible.
Working through money issues is a messy and
imperfect process. But what choice do you have?
What happens if you do nothing?
What's possible if you do take action?
The purpose of
this week’s tip is to inspire you
to take charge of your financial situation - to do
whatever you need to do to make it better.
