Does you think your spouse is boring?
Do you think your spouse thinks you're boring?
A common problem that couples have shared with
Gayle & me through the years is that their marriage
has become dull and boring because their spouse is
too predictable.
How predicable do you think you are?
Don't be too hard on yourself because there is a good
side to predictability. Predictability adds certainty,
comfort and security to a marriage because you know
you can count on your spouse to say or do what needs
to be done.
A spouse who is too unpredictable harms a marriage
because their partner never knows what to expect or
if they will follow through with their responsibilities and
agreements. Make sense?
But since most couples seem to deal with the problem
of too much predictability, I'll focus on it this week.
What do you think happens when a spouse feels
that his or her marriage is dull and boring?
They tend to try to find excitement outside of the
marriage, and often times find themselves in the
arms of another person.
Marriage needs a balance of predictability AND
unpredictability. So if your spouse has become
a little bit too predictable, in your opinion, here are
some ideas to disturb their predictability and spice
things ups:
1) If your spouse spends a few hours each weekend
watching sports, maybe you could make a party out
of it and join them-- maybe invite some friends over.
2) If your spouse loves being outside tending their garden,
then maybe you could buy a special plant for them - and
help them take care of it.
3) Maybe instead of watching the evening news, invite
your spouse to take a sunset stroll with you.
4) During your sunset stroll with your spouse, maybe stop
and give them a hug, whisper in their ear I love you, and
then take their hand and keep walking.
If you want a happy marriage, then do the unexpected.
every once-in-a-while to spice things up!
Be just a little bit unpredictable because when you do, you
and your spouse will start becoming mad about marriage
again!
That's it for today. Your assignment is to do something
unexpected and fun for your spouse this week.
Till next time, this is Mike & Gayle Tucker, and we want
you to be mad about marriage!
