I'm worried for you , and any
other couple who might be in this situation:
Caring for an aging parent.
If this is you or someone you know, then
please take this week's tip very seriously.
People are living longer.
This means that more and more couples are
caring for an aging parent who lives with them.
This is wonderful because it creates special memories.
But there are significant challenges, too.
It can create problems that stress a marriage
and lead to divorce.
A common marriage problem in this situation
is that one spouse feels he or she is doing
most of the work.
When this happens, marriage trouble starts that
poisons the relationship with resentment.
But there are a number of things you can do to
prevent it from coming to this.
I just published a post over at the blog on ways you
can care for an aging loved that will prevent the
situation from harming your marriage. Here's the link:
But here's a quick tip to help if you or someone
you know is in this situation:
Find a senior citizen organization, or club, for
your aging loved one.
These organizations have activities that your
loved one will enjoy, and offer the chance for
them to make friends with people their own age.
Your loved one will appreciate having a sense
of independence and some time to live their
own life.
I don't write about this situation very often, but it's
facing more and more people all of the time. And I
just wanted to encourage you if this is you.
You don't have to lose yourself or your marriage,
while caring for an aging loved one.
You know exactly what I'm talking about if you've
ever been in this situation or are in it right now.
Until next week, this is Mike & Gayle Tucker
and we're mad about marriage!

P.P.S - If someone you know is in this situation,
then just know that it's probably stressing their
marriage. Why not take a second right now to
encourage them by sharing this week's tip?
Thank you!
