Okay. Tell me the truth. Is your marriage a snoozefest?
A common complaint of couples who’ve been married for a while is that their marriage is BORing. Of course they don’t usually use that particular word. Instead, they use words like, routine, predictable,
vanilla, blah.
If your marriage isn’t the brilliant fireworks display it once was, worry not because the fix is easy: Just start adding new things to your marriage because variety is the ______ of life (spice).
Battling the
Blahs
Date Night - Mix it Up!
You’ll dread date nights after a while if you do the same thing over and over again. So, how about...
Horseback riding (or camels if you’re in that part of the world)…
Karaoke night…
A sunset hike or desert safari…
A mystery dinner
date where you solve a crime…
Play. Have fun. Be unpredictable.
Share Your Interests With Your Spouse
If you normally do your own thing as a couple or bury your noses in your screens, why not share each other’s interests for a change.
If your spouse likes to golf, join them.
They like to cook? Bake a special dessert together.
Enjoy life together. Break up the monotony before the monotony breaks up your
marriage.
Redecorate Your Home
Have you had the same décor for years? Green toilettes from the seventies…mauve chairs from the eighties…floral wallpaper prints from the nineties…well, redecorating your home might be just the thing to refresh your relationship.
Weekend
Getaway
Nothing says “change of routine” like weekend getaways with your spouse. Getaways are great for rekindling romance. When is your next one?
Pamper Yourself
Most spouses have very little “me-time” because they're too busy taking care of everyone else. This creates stress and resentment. Pampering yourself will make you feel more positive about your
marriage.
Consider setting aside time for self-pampering every month (every week is better). Treat yourself to a massage or spa treatment or go shopping with your pals. Maybe all you need is a few minutes in your favorite chair with that book that’s been on the shelf since Christmas 2015.
Spend Time Apart
It’s possible that some couples might be together TOO much (a rare thing in this day and age).
You walk out of the bathroom...and there they are; you turn around in the closet…and there they are…you come in from the garage...and there they are.
If you catch your spouse sneaking out of the house in a pair of Groucho Marx glasses and mustache, and you’re the only one there, it might be a hint they want some time alone.
Consider giving your spouse the gift of time alone so they can enjoy their hobbies and passions. Don’t suffocate them. Use that time on a hobby of your own or for a little
self-pampering.
If your marriage has felt lackluster lately, try being a little bit less predictable by mixing things up.
Until next week, this is Mike Tucker and I want YOU to be mad about marriage!
