How boring are you? Couples rarely say it to each other but they say it to me: "My marriage is boring."
Think about it. A relationship can only become boring when one, or both, of the people in it have become boring.
Granted, after a few years of marriage it's difficult to come up with new and exciting things to do. But there’s a whole world out there to explore!
Sure, restaurant dinners and movies make for fun dates but so do physical activities.
Undertaking a physical challenge such as rock climbing with
your spouse, for instance, is a great way to get to know each other better.
By the way, I can hear what some of you are thinking, “I'm eighty years old and can barely make myself breakfast in the morning, and you’re talking about rock climbing?"
Well, that might be true. But did you know there are people in their seventies, eighties and, yes, even their nineties who are running marathons and climbing mountains?
Rock climbing might not be your thing but maybe there’s something else you can do to break out of your rut.
(By the way, Abraham's wife, Sarah didn't plan on having a baby when she was eighty years old either. Miracles happen.)
Fun Activities for
Couples
Rock Climbing
Rock climbing is the perfect activity for adventurous couples who want to have fun and get in shape.
However, if you’re new to it, please take a rock climbing class to learn the necessary skills of, well, not dying.
Race Car Driving
Do you like fast cars? Then you will definitely get a kick out of race car driving.
But before they allow you behind the
wheel of a race car, they will teach you high performance driving. Before you know it you'll be going 180 mph around the track with your hair on fire.
Alternatively, you can opt to be in the passenger seat and let a professional instructor take you for a spin in the race car. This way you can enjoy the adrenaline pumping thrill of race car driving without spending lots of money on high performance
driving classes.
Canoeing/Kayaking/Paddle Boarding/Wind Surfing
If you enjoy water sports, you will probably love one of these activities. However, just like all the other activities, you might benefit from some classes, especially with regards to paddle boarding or wind
surfing.
Horseback Riding
Have you always wanted to learn how to ride a horse but never got the chance?
Why not try it with your spouse? Simply go online, find a good stable nearby and make an
appointment for your first horse riding session as a couple.
Scuba Diving / Snorkeling
Diving / snorkeling are the the perfect activities for water lovers who want to experience the wonder of the deep waters. (You will need to take classes if learning how to scuba dive.)
As you have
probably noticed by now, most of these adventurous date ideas require classes. However, don’t let that stop you because classes are a great way to see if you like something before spending a lot of money on it.
If you don’t feel like channeling your inner Evil Kinievel and prefer something tamer instead, google “recreational activities for boring people” … I’m just kidding!! Google
"recreational activities" for your age group to see if anything interests you.
I think you get the point. Put a little thought and effort into doing fun and interesting things every so often to keep your marriage from becoming dull and boring.
Until next time, this is Mike Tucker and I want YOU to
be mad about marriage!
