Here's some simple old school advice that'll do wonders for your relationship.
Make a mix
tape.
Yes, I know people don't do this anymore. And I also know that there are people who think "tape" is something you use to stick things to other things and have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about.
So, let's rewind for a second, shall we?
Do you and your spouse have a special song - one that you always listened to when you were dating?
Do you have have different songs for different moments?
Maybe you have one for when you got engaged, another for when you had your first child,
possibly even a religious song that creates a sacred environment in your home as you get ready for church.
Music is powerful.
It triggers memories and helps us relive special moments. It impacts our health too.
In fact, some interesting research has been done on how music keeps the mind young:
So why not use music as a tool to not only strengthen your relationship but to also boost your health? May I introduce you to: the mix tape.
Relive That Special Moment
Creating
the perfect playlist is an art. And it’s super easy to do because of i-Tunes and other music services. You can find virtually any song from any decade.
First, come up with the perfect playlist.
List all of the songs that hold special meaning for you and your
partner.
If you can’t remember them all, ask you spouse casually so as not to ruin the surprise; it might take a few days to make your list.
If you don’t have enough songs for a long enough
playlist, add a few of your spouse’s favorite songs.
Once you have the songs, list them in the order you want them to be played.
Remember, you’re trying to create an experience for your partner to relive special moments. Maybe start with the song you listened to all the time while
dating.
Arrange the entire playlist on your computer and listen to it a few times before giving it to your spouse.
You could burn a CD (I know no one does this anymore either) and leave it in their car
stereo so it’s the first thing that plays. Or, you could plan a special evening at home and use the songs as background music to set the mood.
The Technical Stuff
Most people will fire up i-Tunes to create their digital playlist and be done with it.
But for those of us who might be…technically challenged but still know how to turn a computer on and use CDs, here’s what you do:
If you have a MAC, you’ll probably use i-Tunes. If you have a PC, you’ll probably use a program called Windows Media Player.
You’ll use one of those two programs to create your playlist.
When finished, insert a blank CD into your computer’s CD drive and select the "Burn CD” or “Record CD”
option.
(If you can't figure this out, bribe a kid with ice cream and they'll help you.)
Just do whatever you need to do to get it done because you can never go wrong with a “mix tape". It shows that you're
considerate and thoughtful, AND your spouse will LOVE you for it.
