If spending time with your spouse isn’t one of your top priorities then you’re marriage isn’t healthy and it certainly isn’t happy.
You and your spouse REQUIRE time together. If you
disagree, it's because you've been spending too much time apart and it's become a habit.
One of the easiest ways to start spending more time together is by taking a walk in the park or another favorite place - maybe even around your block.
These are a few reasons why walks are good for your marriage:
Time alone
Taking a walk alone with your spouse allows time to talk and connect without any of the typical distractions, so leave your phone in your pocket and see where the conversation leads.
Stress reliever
Walking is one of the best things you can do to relieve stress and feel calmer. It clears your mind, making it likelier you’ll discover solutions to challenges.
Stay fit together
Walking is a great way for married couples to stay fit together; it's absolutely fantastic for heart health too. So whether
you’re trying to shed a few extra pounds or maintain a healthy heart, there’s no better way to do it than with your partner by your side.
Know your neighborhood
No matter how long you’ve lived in your neighborhood there are probably some things you don’t know about the area. Stroll through your neighborhood and you’ll be surprised at what you
find.
Make friends
While most of us know our immediate neighbors we rarely venture further. Taking a walk in the park allows you to make friends with other couples in your area.
Tips for romantic walks:
1. When walking with your partner, leave your headphones at home and use the opportunity to talk. If you choose to bring a phone, use it to track time or steps.
2. Find a pace you’re both comfortable with. Don’t walk so fast that your partner struggles to keep up; don’t walk too slowly either.
3. If you enjoy the walks, make them a regular thing in your family. Pick a day and time when most of you are available and schedule walks for the whole family. It could become your own little tradition.
Make the priority of spending time together a New Year’s
resolution. Give walking a try. I think you’ll find that it’s easy, fun and puts a smile on your face...and in your marriage.
