“Me time” is one of the best hidden secrets to a happy marriage.
Despite what you might have heard, taking care of yourself isn't selfish.
When you feel overwhelmed and spread too thin, you'll get frustrated. And
that frustration will present itself in your marriage, making you say or do things you'll regret later.
Self-maintenance is essential; you must recharge your batteries for a healthy life and marriage.
Unfortunately, many parents or spouses never ask for a little “time off” from their responsibilities because it sounds selfish.
But taking time to relax makes you a better person AND a much better parent/spouse.
If you’re in this situation, give yourself more “me time” in 2018.
And I know the perfect place to start:
The Spa.
(By the way, if your spouse rarely takes me-time, you might surprise them with this gift too)...
Planning a Day at the Spa
1. Find a quality spa near you.
Do a quick Internet search to find spas in your area. Be sure to read the reviews to ensure you're booking with a quality establishment.
Keep in mind that a ‘day at the spa’ should last between 2-4 hours because you don't want to feel rushed. You need to relax and decompress fully.
The spa
will probably offer packages that might include facials, scrubs, soaks, reflexology, massages.
Remember to check for specials or coupons. Sometimes you'll get a discount by booking multiple sessions or services.
Once you find a spa you'd like to try, book an appointment for yourself and/or buy a gift certificate for your spouse.
2. Find a baby sitter.
If you have kids, find someone to watch them.
Maybe you have family members nearby, or another couple you trust, for whom you'll gladly return the favor.
Make sure the kids are taken care of otherwise you'll worry the whole time.
3. Surprise!
If this is for your spouse, choose a special time to surprise them with their gift
certificate.
If possible, you should have already scheduled the appointment for them so they won't be tempted to put it off - so check their schedule ahead of time.
A day at the spa is a great way to unwind; it calms the mind and soothes the soul.
People are stressed out of their minds today.
Research shows that spa treatments such as massages lower blood pressure and increase circulation throughout the body.
So if a day at the spa makes you feel guilty because you've been led to believe that it's a self-indulgent, expensive luxury, consider this: By investing in healthy
self-maintenance regularly, you'll probably spend much less money on pills and doctor visits in the future.
Give yourself and your spouse the gift of meaningful me-time in 2018 for a healthier and happier marriage.
Until next time, this is Mike Tucker and I want YOU to be mad about marriage.
