Sick of Date Nights?

Published: Sat, 02/03/18

Hi ,

It’s not something we talk about much because it sounds so, well, bad:  Some couples and spouses get sick of date nights.

A romantic dinner is a WONDERFUL ritual…until it feels like an obligation.

Getting rid of date nights isn't the answer, variety is. And I have just the idea for you.

We saw something special this week that hasn’t been seen since 1866 (depending on where you live). It was a super blue blood moon lunar eclipse.

NASA tweeted this week that the next appearance of this rare celestial trio in the U.S. - a total lunar eclipse, a supermoon and a blue moon, will be on January 31, 2037. Be sure to put it on your date night calendar before you forget!

But, while you’re passing time these next 19 years waiting, why not give stargazing a try.

There’s something special about getting lost in the night time sky with your spouse. The beautiful stars, galaxies and meteors blazing trails of fire above; romantic. But here are a couple twists to make it even more special.

Your Guide to Romantic Stargazing

Stargazing is as easy as taking a night time walk with your spouse. But another, and more special, option is a moonlight picnic.

Find a deck, patio or roof for your picnic; make it private and safe with an unobstructed view of the sky.

Dress warmly and bring some soft pillows/cushions and two cozy blankets; one to sit on and the other to cuddle under.

*** This might sound crazy, but have a light dinner before the picnic so you’re not stuck eating cold food at the picnic. Your picnic can be hot chocolate and some favorite romantic snacks (think chocolate...).

This is just the start.

Here’s the problem. Unless you’re related to Edwin Hubble or Carl Sagan, lying around on the ground watching stars can get a bit boring. So consider these two romantic ideas to spice things up.

Name a Star

Did you know that there are services that allow you to name a star after a loved one? It’s a wonderful way to make your partner feel special.

Many services will include instructions on how to find “your” star in the sky. Arrange to have the star named before your date so you can point it out during your picnic.

Make a Wish
If you’ve planned ahead to do your stargazing during a meteor shower, you’ll have plenty of chances to make wishes.

Just look for a shooting star and say your wish out loud.

Check NASA’s website for when meteor showers are likely to occur and be seen in your area.

Date nights don’t have to be the same old same old. Shake things up! And give stargazing a try.

Until next time, this is Mike Tucker & I want YOU to be mad about marriage!
